Cherner Barstools, Set of 3
Cherner Barstools, Set of 3
The Mid-Century design movement as we now know it was founded on the idea of production for the masses. It was the discovery and engineering of new materials at the time which enabled great designers to make their work accessible. Molded plywood was a favored material of the time which was used in countless designs such as the famed Eames Lounge Chair. It was also employed by Norman Cherner whose work for Plycraft cemented his name in the world of design.
Cherner’s design for Plycraft was an elegant and adaptable chair crafted from countless layers of graduating molded plywood. A suite of pieces were designed for Plycraft which eventually led to the adaptation of stools such as this set of 3 barstools. Cherner’s design elegantly extends upward to accommodate bar-height seating with a polished chrome footrest which serves as a fastener for each leg. Each vintage stool has been completely refinished, revealing the unique two-tone finish on each leg due to the plywood’s exposed end grain. Each upholstered seat has been restored and reupholstered in the Object Refinery workroom using soft yet durable Italian suede in the color Saddle. The result of our restoration leaves us with a handsome set of Cherner Barstools set to live on for at least another life.
