With great reason, the name Jens Risom is synonymous with the Mid-Century Modern design movement, his original body of work is not only still with us today but much of it is still in production. Hailing from Denmark, Risom’s talent quickly resonated with the great Hans Knoll after emigrating to the United States. It is without surprise that the duo quickly took to collaboration, together they launched the Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1942 with 15-20 pieces of Risom design.
It is likely that this design is related to such early work. Circa 1950, this sofa displays motifs which are unapologetically Risom and timelessly Knoll. The inviting humanist aesthetic welcomes those who seek comfort into its arms. Risom’s expert design sensibility is evident at every angle of this piece; tailored button tufts, seemingly endless spans of material, and unquestionably deliberate angular arms which are as bold as they are comfortable.
Object Refinery has completely restored this “Model 37” Sofa ground-up. New upholstery has been executed completely in-line with original design specifications. The team selected a rich Velvet in Camel (matching accent pillows available) which perfectly accents the newly stained Birch legs. The result is a Jens Risom gem that has been fully restored, refined, and ready to live on for many more lifetimes.
