Dania Nightstands in Walnut & Brass, Pair
Dania Nightstands in Walnut & Brass, Pair
The history of American of Martinsville is one with a rich portfolio of work, ubiquitous in the world of Mid-Century Modern design. The manufacturer’s style varied greatly in an attempt to appeal to new generations of home owners, these are the years of the “furniture set” which populated entire dining rooms and bedrooms with ease. One designer in American of Martinsville’s stable of talent was Merton Gershun, possible their most notable name, who expertly created these handsome nightstands.
Gershun relied on his knowledge of French and Asian design in his work, this is unmistakably evident in the work he produced for American of Martinsville. The common thread throughout his portfolio is his attention to materials, the combinations were always unique and timeless. With the shown pieces from his “Dania Collection” his approach to nightstand design is like no other; an angled front and open storage atop a walnut legged frame come together to form sculptural pieces which appear friendly and inviting. Brass pulls invite you to open the drop-door where a world of compartments and surfaces await. Various nooks allow for books, personals, and even electronics by way of the circular wire cutout. Place your glass on the durable white laminate surface which is revealed on the inside of the drop-door and enjoy the ample storage Gershun intended.
These nightstands remain in there original condition and are in very good quality. Minor wear exist which is expected with age and history however no major cosmetic or structural issues are evident.
