Sonneman Floor Lamp
Sonneman Floor Lamp
Throughout the years, lighting design has become more closely aligned with the world of art and sculpture, a movement which has brought us some stunning creations. This was certainly not uncommon during the Mid-Century Modern design movement, which can perhaps be seen as a precursor to today’s rich world of lighting. At the time, a plethora of new materials came to light which were far more readily available for use than ever before. One of the great lighting designers of the time, Robert Sonneman, designed this adjustable floor lamp and his company continues to operate to this day.
This adjustable floor lamp is unapologetically Sonneman; the use of chromes and blacks, as well as spherical forms define the designer’s motif in the 1960’s. Sonneman was influenced by minimalism and the Bauhaus in his designs and such inspiration truly shows through in his work. This floor lamp features a generously sized chromed sphere of light which can be adjusted by simply pushing or pulling the slender chromed neck which is securely grounded by a heavyweight piece of steel. Pull it towards you for a intimate reading light or push it away for a soft ambience. The options are limitless for this Robert Sonneman design, making it the perfect piece for any area of an inspired home.
