The name Milo Baughman is synonymous with everything Mid-Century Modern design. His portfolio of work is far greater than most of his contemporaries, spanning across centuries of his life and for a multitude of furniture manufacturers. Perhaps one of his most well known manufacturing relationships was one with the renown Thayer Coggin, a marriage from which these swivel chairs were born.

Baughman could very well be known as the father of the swivel chair. While he most certainly did not invent the idea of a swivel club chair, he most certainly perfected what one should be. His swivel chairs for Thayer Coggin are most iconic due to their simplicity and careful overall proportions; a quality Baughman mastered in his time which is long lost in today’s furniture design.

We’ve restored these chairs down to their frames with new foam and padding in addition to new upholstery. We selected a soft Weave in the color Ice and have decided to remove all traditional upholstery details from these chairs so as to celebrate Baughman’s silhouette. The interior and exterior of each chair is formed from just one seamless piece of material joined together by a graceful welt sweeping around each chair. The contrast of fabric to their ebony stained wood bases is quite handsome, allowing for these chairs to be placed effortlessly in a multitude of environments. The bases not only swivel, but also include a rocking mechanism to achieve optimal comfort at the perfect pitch for each user.
