If there were to exist an example of midcentury style for today’s world it would be Brian Kane's Swoop Collection designed for Herman Miller, in particular the Plywood Lounge iteration. Kane diligently observed how people interact with public seating, how the users would mold themselves into what was largely uninviting furniture lacking function. Kane set out to design a collection that was truly made for the humans’ organic form and unexpected behavior.
The Swoop Plywood Lounge Chair pays homage to Herman Miller’s rich portfolio heavily rooted in the years of the great Charles & Ray Eames. As pioneers of molded plywood as a design material, they continuously gave us furniture that is now iconic and eternally celebrated. Kane successfully adapted the use of the molded plywood motif in a current fashion with gorgeous upholstered “Swoops” designed to cradle the body in any way the user sees fit. This chair welcomes those sitting upright, askew, or as its name suggests, lounged. Any position feels perfect in Kane’s collection, by design.
This pair of chairs retain their original material of Herman Miller ‘Crossing’ in Cerulean, a stunning compliment to the book-matched Ash wood backs. Both chairs are in great condition with minor wear, exceptional examples of Brian Kane's design. These chairs also feature generously adjustable glides for optimal stability in any space.
