With great reason, the name Jens Risom is synonymous with the Mid-Century Modern design movement. Hailing from Denmark, Risom’s talent quickly resonated with the great Hans Knoll after emigrating to the United States and together they launched the Hans Knoll Furniture Company in 1942. It is after this momentous start of Risom’s career that he would start his own line of furniture; Jens Risom Design Inc.

While many of Risom’s designs from his namesake company are no longer in production, some designs were produced in larger quantities than others and thus can be readily found to this day. There are other examples of his work however, such as these delightful C-120 accent chairs, which rarely become available. Their upholstered seats appear to “float” within the solid walnut frames with no evidence of fasteners to be seen. The exquisitely sculpted arms present themselves from around the seat back with ease, evoking an effortless presence in the design. Every aspect of these chairs sing Risom; the materials, Danish aesthetic, and confident attitude come together in a way only he could do.

The Object Refinery team was thrilled to acquire this pair of chairs which have been recently restored. This restoration was not completed by our team so occurrences of minor wear exist with age and history. The chairs retain their cotton upholstery with a geometric print which is a fine complement to the angular walnut frames, which are also in wonderful condition.
