Ernst Schwadron Lounge Chair
Ernst Schwadron Lounge Chair
Ernst Schwadron initiated his career in his home country of Austria in the 1920s, quickly gaining popularity and a following of affluent patrons who would commission him for their homes and their interiors. He would later move to New York where he partnered with Rena Rosenthal and her namesake interior design company. This rarely seen chair is a result of such collaboration, it embodies the essence of 1930s Austrian Modernism of which Schwadron was considered a master.
The Object Refinery team was very much inspired by the chair’s voluptuous form in our selection of new materials to honor the design. We took the chair right down to its frame for restoration and installed new interior fill. We selected a plush Italian cotton bouclé in Ivory for the primary material which is delightfully soft to the touch. To contrast, we selected Italian leather in Saddle Brown for the chair’s piping and button tufts.
This fully restored piece of Ernst Schwadron Austrian design embraces you as you sit, a plush seat and soft back make for comfort one will not want to leave. This would be the perfect chair for a reading nook, an intimate space, or perhaps a bedroom. Wherever it’s placed, Schwadron’s chair is sure to be a subtle focal of the room.
